Committed to a brighter future for children, neighbors and communities.

We consider a healthy neighborhood to be one that is safe, clean, and diverse; one in which it makes economic sense for people to invest and one where neighbors manage change successfully.

Homeownership

First Time Homebuying Coaching

We can help you navigate the path to homeownership with our certified housing counselors. Download or complete the Intake Form online to start the process.

Individual Development Account (IDA)

The Individual Development Account (IDA) is a monetary incentive designed to assist potential homeowners in saving for the purchase of their home. Enrollment in the IDA program is on a first-come-first-served basis. Potential participants may enroll at Grassroots Community Development and participate in its housing coaching program. An IDA participant’s savings of up to $1,000 will be matched 2:1 at house closing upon providing a complete request for match funds as specified in this policy. A participant may not receive more than $2,000 in match funds, and match funds are only available for the purchase of a house.

Financial Literacy Classes

The Financial Literacy Workshop is a program that was developed to help the participant navigate through the homebuying process. The program consists of six, 2-hour classes that cover a variety of topics such as managing daily and monthly expenses, saving for emergencies, how to establish and improve credit ratings, and taking care of home investments. Information is also shared on how to identify the best loan products.

Homebuyer Education Classes

The Homebuying Education Workshop is designed to assist future homeowners in navigating the path to homeownership. It also is an opportunity to begin utilizing the tools gained from the Financial Literacy training. One is not a prerequisite for the other but highly recommend. This workshop is a one time, 5-hour session. Participants learn firsthand from various professionals about information needed in order to purchase a home. Some of the speakers include housing counselors, lenders, realtors, home inspectors, home insurance agents, as well as estate planning specialists.

Last Friday was a busy time of celebratory events in East Waco. JH Hines hosted a Muffins for Moms event, where over 100 moms, grandmothers, aunties, sisters, and mother figures attended. Community partners and other volunteers also showed up to support this effort.
At the same time, just across West Waco Drive, was the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new GW Carver Middle School. Alumni, current students and staff, public officials,Waco ISD, residents and other community members gathered for this historical event. We enjoyed being able to participate and support these exciting moments.
