Committed to a brighter future for children, neighbors and communities.

We consider a healthy neighborhood to be one that is safe, clean, and diverse; one in which it makes economic sense for people to invest and one where neighbors manage change successfully.

Family Engagement

Grassroots Leadership Training

This is a leadership development program that seeks to equip families to engage with their child's school in meaningful ways by working with others and existing school assets to address community needs. The first phase of the GLT program is a training that provides information regarding identifying schools assets, leadership and communication skills, and ways for families to support their student's academic success. During the second phase, our community organizers provide ongoing consultation to our leadership training graduates to ensure that they have the necessary resources to carry out their action plans in the community.

Grassroots Teen Leadership

This program is designed to equip young leaders to engage in their community and school in meaningful ways by working with others and existing community assets to address community needs. The first phase of the GTL program is an interactive training in which students explore community and school assets, leadership and communication skills, and conflict resolution techniques. During the second phase, our community organizers provide ongoing consultation to our leadership training graduates to ensure that they have the necessary resources to carry out their action plans in their community or school.

Collaborative Family Engagement Approach

This approach seeks to work with staff and parents at local schools to develop effective, campus-specific strategies for family engagement. The first phase of this program involves training for both school staff and families. The school staff training discusses concepts, such as, family engagement core beliefs and the elements of high impact family engagement strategies. The training with families includes discussion of topics, such as, identifying school assets and ways families can support their child's academic success. The second phase consists of our community organizers working with a core group of school staff and families. Based on information learned during the trainings, this core group works together to develop and implement campus-specific strategies that will be effective in engaging families in meaningful ways. Grassroots coordinates with local schools and districts to implement this program.
