Helping your neighbors can look many different ways. It can look like picking up their mail when they are out of town, helping put their dog back in the yard, or bringing over cookies when someone is sick. It can also mean helping your neighbor understand what options are available for property taxes.
Yes, property taxes.
For the past several years, Grassroots has tried to do our part of being a good neighbor by working with different neighborhood associations to host Property Tax Workshops in North, South, and East Waco.
Why would you want to come to one of these workshops? We bring the experts: the McLennan County Appraisal District and volunteer realtors. They teach how the assessment and taxing process works. More importantly, they share about exemptions, such as the homestead exemption, that can save most homeowners up to 15%. They also share how you can protest the assessed value of your home.
Last year, we had over 350 people attend these workshops. We hope to see you and your neighbor at one of the following workshops this year.
