I want to take a moment to brag about our amazing Community Organizers and their dedication to supporting our local schools, children, and parents. Over the past six years, we’ve partnered with Transformation Waco (TW) and Waco ISD schools to create family and community engagement opportunities across the city. Our team have served in efforts with JH Hines, Brook Avenue, Carver Middle, Alta Vista, Kendrick, and South Waco Elementary, making a real difference in these schools.
As part of TW’s Full-Service Community Schools initiative, we helped launch Parent University, designed to meet the needs and interests of families. So far, nearly 160 parents have been involved in shaping the program through feedback, suggestions and other forms of participation! We hold periodic sessions covering important topics like building credit and strategies for helping kids succeed academically at home.
We are also continuing the great work of Shirley Langston’s PAACTT (Parent and Child Time Together). This initiative fosters family-friendly school cultures by creating spaces for parents to equip parents with resources, providing opportunities for connections between families and their school, and learning ways to support their children’s academic, social, and emotional growth. Through regular meetings with families, community partners, and civic organizations, PACTT empowers parents to stay engaged in their children’s education, ensuring success both inside and outside the classroom.
It’s clear we’re committed to listening to our community, finding solutions, and working together to meet their needs.
Grassroots is proud to serve Waco and excited for the future!
