Following an unusually rainy summer, we are bringing this year’s roof repair program to
a close. This year we were able to assist 30 families in the City of Waco, replace their
leaky roofs and give them peace of mind the next time that unexpectant rainstorm
comes through town. We are so grateful to our many supporters who made this
program possible through various grants and donations.
Ms. Smith is one of our clients who qualified for a roof replacement this year. She just
turned 66 years old and lives on $900/month. The cost to replace her roof was over
$9,000 which is why she has been unable to replace the roof herself. Insurance was not
willing to help pay and the patches her son had been doing were only getting worse
year after year. This was complicated by the fact that the roof had 2 layers of shingles
on top of wood cedar shakes and no decking. It is almost impossible to find a leak
when you have 3 different layers of roof coverings on one roof.
With the help of our Roof Repair Program, we were able to remove and replace Ms.
Smith’s roof at no cost to her. The roof has new decking to support the new 30 year
architectural shingles that were installed. Combine that with a 5 year warranty and Ms.
Smith has a roof over her head that is there to protect her from the elements for many
years to come.
