Ms. White has a long history with Waco that dates back to 1946. She was born and raised here and still calls Waco home. Her husband ran an auto shop for over 30 years on Waco Drive, serving the community and their automobile needs. After her husband’s passing, Ms. White felt the weight of being a homeowner and all the repairs that come with that responsibility. “This is the new normal,” she said, “Learning how to take care of this house and keep it from falling apart is a lot of work.”
A few years ago, Ms. White noticed spots on her ceiling that were caused by water leaking through her old roof. After applying with Grassroots for our Roof Repair Program, she was awarded a new roof which will protect the inside of her home from falling into disarray. “I feel so blessed to receive a new roof, it means a lot,” she said when I went by for a follow up meeting. Having a roof that keeps the rain out and protects those inside, can create the ability for Waco residents to keep and maintain their homes for years to come.
