Committed to a brighter future for children, neighbors and communities.

We consider a healthy neighborhood to be one that is safe, clean, and diverse; one in which it makes economic sense for people to invest and one where neighbors manage change successfully.

Our Journey: Transforming Waco One Home at a Time

Our Journey: Transforming Waco One Home at a Time

When Grassroots Community Development began, our founding board chose to focus on a specific neighborhood. The area was bordered by 18th Street, the River, Waco Drive, and Colcord Ave. Within these boundaries were 600 homes and 200 vacant lots. These vacant lots were once homes, but leaky roofs and fires had left them empty.

The board developed an ongoing strategy to save homes, help families keep their equity, and provide stability to the community. We’ve been following this plan for over 23 years.

During this time, we’ve worked tirelessly with volunteers, foundations, local contractors, and the City of Waco to save the next 200 homes.

As of this year, we have completed 226 roof projects and over 230 home repair projects. We’ve more than accomplished our goal.

If you want to help us save the next 200 homes, reach out to us. We are always looking for volunteer groups, donors, and local contractors.

On to saving the next 200 homes.
