Committed to a brighter future for children, neighbors and communities.

We consider a healthy neighborhood to be one that is safe, clean, and diverse; one in which it makes economic sense for people to invest and one where neighbors manage change successfully.

Looking Ahead: A 25-Year Vision for Grassroots Community Development

25 year vision

This July marks 25 years of being part of Grassroots Community Development. When I think about where we’ve been—and more importantly, where we’re going—I’m filled with a deep sense of hope.

At its core, Grassroots has always been about people. Not just programs or projects, but neighbors. Over the next 25 years, I believe our calling remains the same: to cultivate neighborhoods where every person—single adults, families, children—has the opportunity to truly flourish.

I imagine a future where homeownership isn’t out of reach, but a real and attainable step toward stability. A future where strong relationships form the backbone of neighborhoods, and where leadership doesn’t come from the outside, but rises from within the community itself.

I see neighborhoods shaped by the voices of the people who live there—where neighbors are equipped to lead, advocate, and build the kind of place they want to call home. I see children thriving in schools because their families feel connected, supported, and engaged. I see individuals—whether raising a family or navigating life on their own—finding dignity, stability, and purpose through homeownership.

This vision isn’t something we bring into a community. It’s something we uncover and invest in. Over the next 25 years, we will continue leaning into what’s already there—walking alongside neighbors, strengthening local leadership, and building on the assets each community already holds.

We’ll keep expanding access to financial literacy, homebuyer education, and leadership development so more people can take confident steps toward long-term success. Because when people are equipped, supported, and believed in, transformation follows.

I believe in a future for Waco where safe, affordable housing is within reach. Where homeowners—whether single or raising a family—help create vibrant, connected neighborhoods. And where every person knows they are valued, seen, and capable of shaping their own future.

That’s the vision that still drives me after 25 years. And I believe the best is still ahead.
