If you have ever driven down 25th Street, you may have noticed a bright white-and-blue house called Antojitos Centro Americanos. This delicious Honduran restaurant and Spanish-language Christian Bookstore was founded by our dear friend Rosa. Rosa was a strong, hardworking woman who worked to provide for her family and provide a good product to the community. She brought her kind and friendly spirit into all that she did. Rosa passed away very unexpectedly late last year. With heavy hearts, we gathered to celebrate the life and love of Rosa. She brought many in the community together in life and in death.
Today, Michelle and Abigail, alongside their family, are continuing their mother’s legacy. On Saturday, March 21st, they celebrated the reopening and renaming of their mother’s restaurant to “Rosita’s.” “Many would often say, ‘let’s go visit Rosita,’” shared Rosa’s daughter, Michelle. Rosita was Rosa’s loving nickname that many called her by, and often called out when they came to see her. Michelle and Abigail are honored to continue their mother’s work and legacy of love and care for the community. As they continue grieving, healing, and rebuilding, they are motivated by the serving spirit of their mother. She often went above and beyond to serve her customers and friends, and they hope to keep that same serving spirit alive.
As Honduran-American daughters of a Honduran immigrant, they are excited to bring their own flavors to the food. They are looking to honor traditional Honduran flavors and seasonings while bringing their own favorite spices into the mix. “When you step into this space, we want to transport you to Honduras,” shared Michelle. As they plan for the future, they want to invite the entire community to come out and continue supporting their mother’s legacy. When we all come together, we keep Rosa’s collaborative spirit alive.
Come down to Rosita’s, located at 1409 N. 25th St., where you will find many delicious traditional Honduran plates. Whether you are a Honduran native or have always wanted to visit, everyone will enjoy their delicious menu. They are open Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 am- 6 pm and Thursday-Saturday from 11 am – 9 pm.
