How can action create an impact in a community? For the neighborhood revitalization team, spearheaded by the Housing and Community Development office at the City of Waco, it meant being able to lend a helping hand to neighbors in the area in a morning of service, Saturday, November 4th, 2023.
Grassroots has been able to participate in neighborhood revitalization task groups that have been meeting in North, East, and South Waco on a monthly basis. Each team has had the opportunity to share more about their priorities for their neighborhoods, recognizing that each neighborhood has different focus areas and strengths in their immediate communities. For South Waco, one of the focus areas of the group was the rehabilitation of homes in South Waco. Over a series of meetings and planning, “Fall into Action” came to be – a project that focuses on addressing minor house repair, clean up, junk removal, etc., through the help of community groups and volunteers.
Over 40 volunteers came together Saturday morning and split into 4 different groups. These groups went to different homes in South Waco to assist neighbors with work outside their homes. We are so grateful to have the opportunity to serve the community alongside community members. We are also grateful to have partners like the City of Waco’s Housing and Community Development team who are continuously working toward building relationships and partnering with the community.
