It is a seemingly long time from May to December, as if the months drag on and on. However, there is something about the month of September. The leaves change colors. The air turns a tad bit cooler and the days grow shorter. Football season starts, Major League Baseball is wrapping up and the NBA is starting the pre-season warm-up. Back in the day, Earth, Wind and Fire asked, “Do you remember, September?” A lot of things happened in September, and for Jennifer, September 2018 was a month to remember. Jennifer, a single parent of one son, who works for the City of Waco, strolled into Grassroots Community Development in February of 2016. She completed our Financial Literacy Class and learned about budgeting and eventually how much house she could afford. Once she completed the Financial Literacy Class, she attended our Homebuyer Education class which prepared her for the home buying experience. In this class, she learned all about lenders, realtors, home inspectors, and home insurance. Finally, it seemed as if Jennifer was ready to purchase her first home in 2017. Unfortunately, a small technicality with the lot she wanted delayed her from completing the purchase. But Jennifer learned that even though she was delayed, she was not DENIED! The delay allowed her to tighten her budget, save some additional money, and purchase some things for her new home. Finally, after one of the hottest August month in history gave way to September, Jennifer and her son closed on her new home.Talk about a September to remember. ... See MoreSee Less
